June is the first month of Summer here in the Northern hemisphere, which is great news to all of us who love the sun and warmth. Every season is wonderful in Colorado, but summer has a special place in our hearts. Warm days and nights, flowers, crops and here in Colorado - business events.
Located in Longmont Colorado, Colorado Horse Rescue (CHR) has supported at-risk horses in Colorado since 1986. Last year CHR accepted 110 surrendered horses while adopting out 65 horses to new families. The organization helps horses in its care find new homes by offering training, veterinary and farrier care, nutritional support, and plenty of tender loving care.
Spring is here and that means the Farmers’ Markets will get started very soon! This season is always busy, but welcomed as our weather is getting warmer, the days are longer and we know summer is on its way.
Limon Stop & Shop is the only grocery store in Limon, Colorado with the exception of Dollar General. The closest neighboring store, which is much smaller, is 15 miles away, and it's a 50 - 80 mile drive to a big box store like Kroger or Walmart.
This business is a critical piece of finding healthy food in this rural town on the Eastern Plains. About a third of Limon Stop & Shop's transactions are to customers paying with SNAP EBT, and five percent are to customers paying with WIC.

Felix Tornare, a retired baker of 40 years, has taken on a career in ranching with his wife Sarah. Located in Garfield County, Felix and Sarah spent many years transforming Milagro Ranch while running a bakery. The Tornares saw a need to improve soil health for production, specifically on irrigated pastures, and to enhance ecosystem services on their property. They enrolled in the Colorado Soil Health Program through their conservation district, and the results have been a success to say the least.
